Hearts of Gospel
The choir began in August 2012 in response to a growing need for a gospel choir without auditions.
Today, it is the oldest and largest choir within Gospel Fellowship Sønderborg. From August 2025, Helene Frank will take over as the choir director. The choir continues to be a valued part of Gospel Fellowship Sønderborg. Hearts of Gospel is an adult choir, open to anyone who loves to sing gospel and be part of a community of people who share the same joy of singing. Everyone is welcome to join Hearts of Gospel.
When we sing, we also take time to reflect on the meaning behind the songs and how the message of gospel music speaks to our lives today. This is important, as it helps us convey the songs with the right expression and heart. The word “gospel” means good news — and that’s exactly what many experience after a Wednesday evening with Hearts of Gospel: joy, life, presence, care, and a chance to forget the outside world for a while.
The choir holds a spring concert and a Christmas concert every year. The spring concert takes place at Sønderborg Free Church, and the Christmas concert is held in Lysabild Church. The choir also takes part in the Summer Gospel Celebration and occasionally performs at gospel services and other event
Practical information
The choir rehearses on Wednesdays (except the first Wednesday of each month) from 7:00–9:00 PM at Sønderborg Free Church, Damgade 94. If you’d like to join the choir, just come by on a Wednesday evening. The first two rehearsals are free trial sessions. Once you’ve registered and paid the membership fee, you’ll receive your songbook. We always take a coffee and cake break during rehearsal – the choir members take turns bringing coffee and cake.
The membership fee is 650 DKK per half-year and can be paid to Danske Bank: Reg. 1569 – Account no. 11930522. If you sing in more than one choir within Gospel Fellowship Sønderborg, you pay full price for the most expensive, half price for the next, and the rest are free.
